Day 3 part 2

Something better for me was the hill in Duluth. If you haven't been to Duluth... there is a large hill and we got to go down it. Two years ago on my Ride for the Dominican, I was unable to enjoy the hill because I had broken 2 spokes and my axle was bent. Then upon getting to the hill, I found out that they had stripped off all the asphalt and left a very rough sub pavement (I have no idea) that was very, very rough! Last year I had the opportunity to ride across the state and into Duluth with two students and I was anticipating the hill as well only to find out that they were replacing the bridge. I was sad. This year though, the hill was still there, and there was no construction or anything. It would prove to be interesting with the Burley trailer on back. Knowing this, my wife took some pictures of me and we said our goodbyes before I bombed the hill.

Highland!
It proved to be very scary with the trailer and with some work, I was able to keep myself at 37 MPH and not die.  I'm guessing, but with the trailer I think 50 MPH could have been hit very easily.

The second highlight of the day was a gracious offer from friends to stay with them in their suite.  We not only had fun on the hill, but we had the opportunity to stay in a warm hotel after spending about 20 hours in a tent, then getting rained on... then rained on some more then freezing through the 50 mile ride.  It was a 50 mile day and we were greeted by friends at the Edgewater Hotel and Water Park.  This picture was taken, which I'm certain will live in our nightmares forever.

Thanks Mike and Monica Danielson and family for supporting our Ride for the Dominican.  It was such a boost to our morale to eat so much pizza and enjoy the warmth of a hotel room and a bed with a mattress!

On day 4 we hit the North Shore!
