Camping is such a funny thing to do. You set a tent up
sometimes 10 feet from a perfect stranger and trust that they will be a
friendly neighbor…all the while sleeping in something almost as thin as paper.
We arrived at our campsite at dusk and set up the tent, sent
out the update for the ride and climbed into our sleeping bags for a full night
of sleep before the big day. However, friendly neighbor decided to fill our
entire night with a very long, loud and upset phone call; yelling between friendly
neighbor and his fiance (we found out during the phone call that friendly
neighbor was camping with his fiance), opening and slamming the doors on their
pickup probably 50 times (how many things can a person even put in their car to
open and close the doors that much???), drunken arguments, friendly neighbor
hitting his head and waking up the people in the camper, and someone pounding
on the camper door.
Needless to say, it was not our favorite camping experience
and may have even included a little peering out of the top of the tent opening,
a plea for the police to be called and someone sneaking out to go to the bathroom
so that the friendly neighbor wasn’t made more upset.
We are at a beautiful, quiet campground in Cherokee, IA
ready for an actual full night of rest.
